It's that time of year, I can almost smell the pumpkin pie baking! I'm writing a new book, "Preparing your heart and home for the holidays" and am dedicating the first part to the powerful practice of thanks giving. There are promises for those who choose to participate in giving thanks (see Philippians 4:6-7) and warnings for those who don't (see Romans 1:21).
I have a verse I've attached to my email signature. It is Psalm 131:2 and this is what it says, "I have calmed and quieted myself like a little weaned child with its mother; I am like a little child." My father is the one who challenged me to dig deep into the meaning of this verse.
Why didn't the psalmist say "like a nursing child with its mother?" Why did he reference "a little weaned child with its mother?" Perhaps he wanted to challenge us to spend some time with God without asking for anything. Perhaps he wanted us to experience the intimacy and delight of simply trusting Him--nestling close to Him wrapped in His Presence (unlike the child who depends on its mother for food).
Practice thanks giving this season and discover what the psalmist knew.
